BRIAN BOND
Black Market Kitty - 10 years of Tunes
The Kitty began in 2005, with a new studio being built in Chesapeake, OH at the home of Bryan Bond. He and his brother, Aaron, who'd just moved back to the area after years in Columbus and Boston, built the studio in the basement of Bryan's fantastic chalet home overlooking the Ohio River and downtown Huntington, WV.
Aaron walked into a downtown restaurant in the spring of 2005, and walked right into an old friend. Aaron (aka "AB") and Stos had played together in their formative years (HS/College) in a band called "WinterHaven", along with pals Shane Ross, Tony McClung, Dave Hall and Sean Bowers. They hadn't spoken or seen each other in over 15 years. After hugs and chats, they begin getting together to write at Bryan's.
The boys proposed a rule. They would write at least one song every time they get together. A rule that they still abide by and stick to. Sometimes, they hit on a good idea, and begin to develop it.
Unfortunately, Bryan had rheumatoid arthritis. A quite severe case, in fact. He found it difficult to play any more than 45 minutes to an hour. As a result, AB and Stos would begin writing, tooling around, fishing for ideas. Bryan would listen upstairs. When they hatched their arrangement, Bryan would come downstairs, run through it five or six times, and then they would record it. Many times, Bryan was in great pain, but his love for music and our writing kept him behind the skins ... "feed the dragon". He would often retire to rest while we pondered lyrics, melodies, and keyboard parts.
Bryan passed away in 2009.
All of our songs have both a direct or indirect lineage back to Bryan.
His love of the craft infuses our work ethic and his passion permeates our process.
All thanks, Bryan.
