We are the Kitty! ... Welcome!
Black Market Kitty is a three man collective dedicated to writing our own blend of alt pop rock music.
Fans have told us that they recognize tinges of influence from the likes of Steely Dan, Rush, the Police, Peter Frampton, Widespread Panic or Todd Rundgren.
BLACK MARKET KITTY
Making the Most
First off, we'd like to explain ourselves ... We are not a professional band, traveling the country and playing clubs. We are not a performing band. And although all three of us have played music professionally, we, together as Black Market Kitty, have never played out live in front of anyone.
We are simply part time RECORDING ARTISTS. We just love to play, and love to write; so that's what we do. Why make it any harder than it has to be?
From 2005 through 2012, we would get together, on the average, once a week. We would challenge ourselves to write at least one song per night. Now, when i say "one song", that's just drums, bass, and rhythm guitar. We would then burn it to disc after the session, and listen for opportunities to either further that version, re-record it with adjustments, or scrap it for later. It's tough when you can only dedicate 4 to 6 hours a week to writing music. So there were times when Kenny would come over early with me and recut some percussion parts, or AB would work on his own, developing guitar solos or melody lines; or I'd go over on an off work afternoon and cut some harmony vox. It was just do what you can, when you can.
Because of my job, i had to move to Connecticut in 2012. And, subsequently, have moved to Charlotte. Since i still have family in WV, i do make it back there three or four times a year. And when i do, we write as much as possible. I travel the files back to CLT, work on prospective vox and keyboard lines, and send them back to AB to import back into the project. Difficult, time consuming, but we can still do what we love.
Ain't technology grand?
Over the years, we've written around 100 projects, and now we've been able to piece together some of what we feel are our better songs. Hopefully, you'll find at least one song that speaks to you in some way. If so, then that's absolutely all we can ask for.
So, enjoy.
P.S. - I've found that increased volume and a glass of red is very helpful.
